Pristine Swiss Model 1878 10.4 mm revolver.

The fine Swiss 1878 revolver is ostensibly the Model 1872 10.4 mm rimfire cartridge revolver converted to centrefire. Compare this to the Colt Single action “Peacemaker” revolver and it makes the Colt look agricultural. This revolver has a double action that works like Swiss Clockwork. The Model 1878 was chambered specifically for a centrefire cartridge. Its mechanism is the Warnant system with a rebounding hammer modified by Lieutenant-Colonel Rudolf Schmidt. In contrast with the Model 1872, it has no loading gate but is designed to index the chambers precisely so the cartridges can never drop out of the cylinder with an ejector rod for rapid ejection. They were manufactured in Switzerland by Waffenfabrik Bern. After 1882, they were replaced by the Schmidt M1882 service revolver.
These revolvers were arsenal refinished before sale to the public but with no out of service marks so impossible to tell if it was sold out of service or not. The revolver is a chunky piece of engineering with perfect hard rubber grips. I doubt if this was arsenal refurbished from the case colours of the hammer.
A rare and interesting large bore revolver for collectors and students of European firearms. An opportunity to purchase an interesting and investment grade revolver that complies with the Obsolete calibre 58(2) legislation.
Collectors and investors sometimes ask me what if our laws change? My answer is that the USA market is insatiable for pre-1898 firearms and I visit the USA four times a year and can arrange export for my customers to protect their investment should the market change.
I only offer investment quality collectible legal firearms that are tangible investments.
