The frame has the inspectors mark HH stamped on the left side underneath the rammer.
The revolver cocks, locks perfectly in both double and single action and holds on the half cock.
Many of these revolvers were later converted to cartridge in the early 1870’s and the inspectors mark HH is known on converted examples held at the Royal Armouries.
The original bluing is extant and the revolver has an engraved trigger guard, finely chequered walnut butt with foliate engraved steel butt plate. In its original green baize lined and fitted oak case with plain circular brass escutcheon on the lid and Deane and Son label inside the lid stating the address and "Gun makers to HRH Prince Albert"
The case containing a double cavity brass 120 bore mould for pointed bullets stamped "Tranters Patent|", cleaning rod with worm, oil bottle, bag shaped copper flask by Dixon & Sons, nipple key, ebony handled turnscrew and nipple key and a leather cap bag. Circa 1860.
The case also contains a quantity of contemporary cast bullets.
The revolver has seen little use if any at all and the accessories, particularly the mould, reflect this. It would be difficult to improve on this revolver and a with the scarce short barrel, a true pocket pistol.
A very attractive Tranter 4th Model revolver retailed by a well-known London Gun Maker and in exceptional condition.
